Default Word quits responding when I attempt to "save as" a file

Have looked for updates, and have also reinstalled and the problem continues.

If this happend in the last week, the problem is installed, rather than
uninstalled, updates. Specifically, a Windows update.

For immediate purposes, go to the Add/Remove programs control panel and
click on the box to show updates (top right). Down near the bottom are
Windows updates. You are looking for "Security Update for Windows XP
(KB908531)". Unistall this.

Keep reading these newsgroups and search for that number. You will see other
things you can do as well.

The update works for some people, including me, without problems for others
it causes the problems you are seeing.

The updates are the problem. A recent Windows update is the cause. To quote
Word MVP Jay Freedman:

The quick but unsafe way is to uninstall the security patch that's
causing the problem. In Add/Remove Programs, check the box at the top
marked "Show updates". Select "Security Update for Windows XP
(KB908531)" and click the Remove button.

For a better workaround, until a new security patch is ready, read
Steven Hui's post at
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...fb82836c014916.
Use the registry change in Method 1. Also read the replies that follow
that post, which give some useful advice.
