Press Alt+F9 to display field codes. The date that keeps updating is a
DATE or TIME field. With field codes turned on, you'll see something like this: { DATE \@ "M/d/yy"}. Replace the DATE part with CREATEDATE, press F9 to update, and then press Alt+F9 to hide field codes again. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Steve W" wrote in message ... Hi Stefan,
thank you very much for the reply, I did what you said and it worked, however, is there not a way to disable this updating thing alltogether, as I have noticed that I will have to do this for every single document that I open up all the time, thanks again Stefan, Steve. Change the field in the template, so you've got the right sort of field to
start with. "Steve W" wrote in message ... Yes, you have to change each document using the (incorrect) field.
In the future, avoid Insert | Date and Time, beacause it either inserts the wrong field (if you check the "Update automatically" option) or it is no different from typing (if you uncheck "Update automatically"). Instead, add a CREATEDATE field to your template. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Steve W" wrote in message ... Thank you both,
of course, in the real world, and Microsofts infinate wisdom, it would have made life easier just to have the check box in "update automaticaly" completely ignore the older date in the original document, and just replace it with todays date if YOU actualy wanted to over write the old date MANUALY, this would have made life a lot easier for all I think. It's up to you which kind of field you insert: blaming Microsoft because
you've chosen the wrong kind seems rather childish. "Steve W" wrote in message ...
