Default Set Default to One Page View

Oh my gosh - someone has to have a solution for this! Office 2007 likes to
open things in Two Page View and it drives me crazy! Things I have had sent
from other people, new documents, downloaded documents, etc.

Can anyone tell me how I can fix this problem????

I tried some macros but honestly they want to align the page to the left. I
just want to print layout, one page view to be my "always use" setting...
HELP!

Thumbs up Answer: Set Default to One Page View

Here's how to set the default view to one page view in Microsoft Word 2007:
  1. Open Microsoft Word 2007.
  2. Click on the Office button in the top left corner of the screen.
  3. Click on Word Options at the bottom of the menu.
  4. In the Word Options dialog box, click on Advanced.
  5. Scroll down to the Display section.
  6. Under the Display section, you will see a drop-down menu labeled "Show document content". Click on the drop-down menu and select "Single page".
  7. Click on OK to save the changes.

Now, every time you open a new document in Microsoft Word 2007, it should default to one page view. If you have any existing documents that are still opening in two page view, you can change the view for those documents by going to the View tab on the ribbon and selecting "One Page" under the "Views" section.

If you encounter any issues, please let me know.

The number of pages shown in Word 2007 depends on the combination of
the zoom setting and the screen size and resolution. If you set the
zoom factor high enough, it will switch to one-page view. Find out
what minimum setting does that on your computer. Then use the AutoNew
and AutoOpen macros at the end of
http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm to set the zoom for new and
existing documents, respectively, to that value.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As per my original post, I have tried using macros and did not find this
offered the solution I wanted. I have to believe Microsoft MUST have a place
this can be set as a default setting, without a need to rely on macros and
other advanced tools. I find this feature a terrible annoyance, as do many
others posting all over the internet.

Please post back if there is a solution that does not rely on macros, which
allows me to set a default view to use the "one page view" as opposed to the
"two page view" which appears to be the current default.

I have to say that I would not be happy, either, if I had to display two
pages in order to see a page at a specific Zoom setting. If I just want to
see *one* full page, then Word should not offer me two unless I ask for it.

I probably have a higher than average tolerance for distracting UI,
but it doesn't bother me if there are two pages on screen instead of
one page and a lot of wasted gray space.

That tolerance might disappear if Microsoft actually used that gray
space intelligently, such as an option to let the ribbon display
vertically on one side (in Word 2003, I have toolbars down both sides
as well as across the top).
