Retriving a file that has been saved over/overridded with a blank
My sister opened Word 2003, so that a blank document was opened ie Document
1. She wanted to Open another document called Geography coursework, but instead of clicking the Open icon, she clicked Save. She then selected the file name Geography coursework and clicked OK. This then override the Geography coursework document with a blank document and we don't know how to get the original back; the version before she saved over it with a blank copy. I have tried going to File, Versions to find previous versions, but there are done listed. Please Help Thank you |

The chances of recovering this document are very slim indeed if she has no
backup. You *may* be able to use file recovery software downloaded using another PC and run from floppy disc or CD, but I wouldn't count on it. There are specialist companies that can recover data, but the cost implications may be frightening. The more you use the PC in the interim, the less chance you will have of recovering any of the data. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Kellis_115 wrote: My sister opened Word 2003, so that a blank document was opened ie Document 1. Retriving a file that has been saved over/overridded with a blank
Following up on this issue, there is a new piece of software around called
Undelete 2009 Professional from the writers of the Diskeeper defragmentation software. This replaces the Windows recycle bin and stores each version of saved files so while there is disc space available you can recover old versions of documents. It is very handy if you are reckless about your file handling, but sadly does not work retrospectively. http://www.diskeeper.com/products/products.asp -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Graham Mayor wrote: The chances of recovering this document are very slim indeed if she has no backup. I don't know the program, but it sounds pretty similar to the 'Shadow
Copies' feature already built in into Vista. (right click file, select properties and choose the 'previous versions' tab).
