Word 2003 Styles - Style Name
Hi,
Looked for an answer on the board and could not find one. Could someone please tell me why sometimes Word adds the word "Style" in front of the name of a style that has been modified? Thank you. |

Hi Helen, It doesn't ;-) The pane is called "Styles and Formatting", and if you have "Tools Options Edit Keep track of formatting" checked, it will also show manual formatting that you applied. The styles have a ¶ on the right (for paragraph styles), or ª (for a character style). Manual formatting shows nothing. But if you select some manual formatting and then "modify" that (from the drop-down/context menu in the pane), you create a style, and Word adds the word "Style". Often, it's suggested to uncheck "Keep track of formatting" to get rid of the "problem". IMO, the best solution is to avoid manual formatting, and you have to see it to do that. So I keep it turned on, and apply a proper style in case I see manual formatting in the "Styles and Formatting" pane. Regards, Klaus |

Klaus,
Thank you sincerely for your explanation; it is crystal-clear and makes a lot of sense! Hélène "Klaus Linke" wrote: "Helen" wrote: Hi, Looked for an answer on the board and could not find one.
