Default how to remove extra spacing between words?

I recently pasted some text from elsewhere into a word document. When i tried
to tidy up the text by 'justifying it' some of the words in a sentence had
large spaces between them. When i tried to delete this space, the words just
came together and when i press 'space' to separate them, the large space
appears again.

Justified text will have larger spaces between words so that it fills the
text lines. What you can do is hyphenate the text and also to enable the "Do
full justification the way WordPerfect 6.x for Windows does" compatibility
option.
