Limiting the bookmark content
What is the easiest way to limit the bookmark content. I have a document
that includes a court number from a database. This court number is brought in via a bookmark, i.e. [court#]. An example of our court numbers, as entered in out database, is as follows: JCF12345/04-20-07, where the first eight characters are the court number (JCF12345) and the following information is additional referencing information. I only want the actual court number to print (the first eight characters). I don't want the rest of it to automatically appear on the document. Due to the way our DMS works, I cannot use macros in my template or shell documents. Do you have any solutions? |

Oddly enough, I will reply to myself. I think the best workaround, since our
court numbers are always the same length, would be to put the bookmark in a text box that is only big enough to show eight characters. This way, I don't compromise the information brought in by the bookmar, and instead, mask the information that I don't want to show. What do you think? Is this something that would work? Limiting the bookmark content
Yes, I see your point and had not thought of that, actually. Your idea works
much better. Although I would eventually have the document protected to not allow the user to alter that area, there appears to be more control with tables than text boxes for this application. Thank you, Jay. "Jay Freedman" wrote: While a text box might do the job, you'd probably do better to use a single-cell table. Set the column width so it won't expand (Table AutoFit Fixed Column Width) and set the row height to an exact value (Table Table Properties Row, change "At least" to "Exactly" and enter a value). The trouble with a text box is that it's floating in the drawing layer and can easily be dragged out of position. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit.
