Default Mailmerge 2003 Word documents with Access yes/no values

My Access Data base and my Word mailmerge document were both developed
in version 97. Now that we have been upgraded to 2003 my "if"
statements that are pointing to "yes/no" values in my Access file are
no longer working.

Sample:

{IF {MERGEFIELD X} = "-1" "We are unable to respond to your request."
""}

All other mergefields and statements converted with no problems....so
far.
