word office 11: no normal.dot ???
hi there,
i am using office 11 or also called office system 2003 with sp1 installed it seems i don't have a normal.dot file on my computer. at least i can't find the file using file search in windows explorer ... when i try so save a word document giving it the name normal and selecting to save it as a template it says "word cannot give a document the same name as an open document. type a different name for the document you want to save. (C:\Documents and Settings\...\normal.dot)" but at the given location i can not see a file called normal.dot. my explorer is set to show all files including system and hidden files so it it's there i should see it. so i am a little confused ... - where is my normal.dot ? - if it's on my computer why can't i see it ? - what can i do to see it and edit it ? thnx |

this is weird
i opened word, and changed the font from times new roman to tahoma and then saved the document as a template giving it the name normal_test.dot then i closed word, opened the explorer, jumped to the location where the normal_test.dot is and renamed it to normal.dot word now uses this newly created normal.dot when opening this resolves my problem but there are still the questions from my previous post maybe this is a new security feature to protect the default template ...
