headers and footers print field code
If I Insert Auto Text for a header or footer and choose Filename and Path the
correct filename and path will appear on screen, but when I print the document (or choose Print Preview) the footer prints {FILENAME \p}. The same file, when accessed from another computer, prints the footer correctly. I'm stumped. |

You can also right-click in the field and select Toggle Field codes.

This affects display only, not what will print.

headers and footers print field code
If a document is open and you toggle the field codes and print it, it will
print the text that you have toggled to show, not the field codes. It's true that if you save the document and re-open it the field codes will still show and you will have to toggle them again. But if you toggle them and print, the text will definitely print. I have tested it. I'm not saying its the best solution, only something that will work for you in a pinch - another alternative if you will. -- Carol A. Bratt, MCP "Suzanne S. headers and footers print field code
Hi Carol - You are right that this is a way to get the codes to print, but
the original poster had the opposite problem - codes still printing when display was showing text. That's a symptom of having the print option set to include the codes - most mystifying if you didn't intend it g. -- Margaret Aldis - Microsoft Word MVP Syntagma partnership site: http://www.syntagma.co.uk Word MVP FAQ site: http://www.word.mvps.org "Carol" wrote in message ...
