Default Problem with changing hyperlinks when burning document to CD

I use Word 2000.
I have a large document on my hard drive amounting to 155 pages. This is my
memoirs which was printed but I now wish to use CDs ib lieu of a re-print.
I have linked the pages using hyperlink so that one can go from the index
page to various chapters and when in that chapter to go from page to page.
At the end of each page one can return to the Index.
The hyperlinks show the path as is on the hard drive.
How can I set it up so that the links will work solely on the CD when it is
burnt please?

these are internal Hyperlinks? They should not need any path at all. Can
you explain exactly how you created those links? With the cursor in one
link, hit SHIFT-F9: what exactly does it display?

Hello Robert
I set up the link using the hyperlink on the drop down list under Insert..
Placing cursor over link shows the full path e.g. F:\country-boy\dvd
book\front page.doc
Placing cursor on link and hitting SHIFT-FP changes it to {hyperlink "front
page.doc"}

Hmm, you have all your content in one single document file, right? This
hyperlink points to the file itself, and not to any target within --
frankly, I'm not sure how this should work (to bring you to any place
else than the very first page, that way).

I would rather use Insert | Crossreference, as hyperlink. This will
create a REF field with a \h switch.

The book consists of 15 chapters each a seperate document, one Index and a
preface. There are also some pages of photgraphs which have been saved as
Word documents.
I am trying to make it easier for people to read from a CD, going to
chapters separateley and hopefully, once that is sorted out, to progress
page by page.
A tall order I think. My other thought are is it possible using Adobe?
Many thanks
Eric H

You'd do better to put the whole thing in a single file and convert to PDF,
including bookmarks.

Hi Robert
Many thanks for your help.
I have now combined all of the chapters into one Word document.
Can you explain how I can open each chapter from the page containing the
Index. There are now a total of 110 pages without the photographs.
Eric H

I have now managed to set up boomarks to the various chapters and all
appears to be running well.
May I presume that when I transfer this file to a CD it will continue to
work?
Many thanks for all the help from everyone

If we're still talking about the DOC file, then, frankly, I wouldn't
presume anything, but test. :-)

If you've converted it to PDF, and there it works, then yes, it should
not matter whether the PDF resides on your HD or CD.
