Default BUG: Word 2003, Normal.dot fails to save Outline Toolbar State

I can easily reproduce this on several machines. I am using Word 2003 SP1.
When you configure your toolbars, the state of those bars is saved to
Normal.dot. Word appears to correctly save the state of all bars EXCEPT for
the Outlining Bar. If I turn this bar ON, and close Word... it will ask me
if you want to save changes to Normal.dot (since I turned on to have it alert
me to changes) and I say "YES" and then next time I load Word the Outlining
toolbar is OFF again!

I an easily reproduce this bug on more than one machine.

I agree but my problem is a little different. Mormal.dot will not refresh.
None of my changes stick. Cumstomization of the tool bars or menu bars is not
being saved. All of the pre set tool bars work fine. I can turn them of and
on ok. I just can't save custom changes. I also am using Word SP1 and XP with
SP2.

Yes, unfortunately Adobe's latest dumb idea is to set the Saved property of
Normal.dot to True so that it is never saved on quitting Word. Until this is
fixed, the only workaround is to save Normal.dot manually by pressing Shift
while clicking on the File menu, then selecting Save All.

More background ... this is a new computer activated a week ago. I loaded a
few pieces of software on before i activated the Office 2003 package. I am
pretty sure Acrobat 7 was one of them. And I set up the home network at the
same time. When I activated the Office package ... Outlook was the first
program run and i was able to save the only change to the normal.dot.

Based on the comment regarding Acrobat 7 ... I uninstalled Acrobat 7. And it
opened normal.dot for refreshing and saving now customization. Thank you.

Now the next question ... how do I load Acrobat 7 so it won't interfer with
normal.dot?

Thanks. The "dumd idea" is almost worse than a "virus". I can protect from a
virus but internal program defalts cannot even be detected to the regula
user. Without your help i probably would have sent the computer back to
reload XP or Office. Thanks again

Does Adobe know this is a pronlem that needs to be remedied or are they
hardheaded?

I can't say for sure, but I would be inclined to guess that Adobe has heard
from a number of irate Acrobat 7 users by now!

They must be hard headed - if they had any sense they would have removed the
protection from their earlier template add-ins and their problems would have
been resolved years ago by an army of vba experts. Make your displeasure
felt at Adobe

There's a registry patch which will stop the add-in loading, listed on my
web site at http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adob...at_toolbar.htm, but
this also removes the functionality that the add-in provides between Word
and Acrobat, so is only a temporary solution until someone puts the boot in
at Adobe.
