Default how do I put two styles on one line in a table of contents

Hi,
I am trying to construct a TOC that keys off Heading 1 - 3, but also
includes a custom style called ChapterNumber in front of Heading 1.
So the first page of our chapters are formatted like this:

1 (ChapterNumber Style)
______ (seperator rule)
Chapter Name (Chapter name using Heading 1.

I would like the TOC entry to look something like this:
1 Chapter Name

I can only get the chapter number to show up on a seprate line.
Any tips will be appreciated.

Use two different styles. Use Heading 1 for the chapter title and a separate
Chapter Number style for the number (with a bottom border). In the TOC,
apply auto numbering to the TOC 1 style.

Thanks Suzanne,
That is how I have my styles set up. The issue is with the TOC. When you
Autonumber TOC1, it numbers all level 1s. We also use Heading 1 without the
ChapterNumber style in the Preface, Glossary, and Appendix. So I don't want a
number to show up with those sections. Any ideas?

Sure. Instead of using Heading 1 for the Preface, Glossary, and Appendix,
use another heading style (built-in or custom). Map it to an unused TOC
style, modified to be identical to TOC 1 except for the numbering.
