I don't understand what you mean by in Microsoft 2003 products, but in Word (and only Word) it sounds like you have Track Changes enabled. Go to ViewMarkup, then go to ToolsTrack Changes to make sure the feature is turned Off. If that doesn't solve the problem, please post back with more specific info re what seems to be triggering the 'line' and in which programs.
