Word 2007 Footer Problem
I'm trying to set up a footer with text on the left and page numbers in the
middle. I put the text in ok and when I put in a page number the text disappears. If I put the page number in first then I can't enter the text. Also, can I make the text left align with the rest of the text on the page without the earlier suggestion of using a table format? No problem with any of this in earlier versions of Word. |

Word 2007 Footer Problem
In Word 2003 and earlier, you would type the text you want on the left, tab
twice (assuming the default tab stops), and then click the Insert Page Number button on the Header and Footer toolbar. Is there anything remotely comparable to this in Word 2007? -- Suzanne S. I've tried that but what happens when I tab over and click the insert "page number" box I get a page number but the text disappears. |

Word 2007 Footer Problem
The headers and footers offered on the Ribbon in Word 2007 are
"Building Blocks"; MS made it difficult to find a way to simply enter text of your own choosing. As usual, trying to make things simpler, they've only made it more roundabout and confusing. One of the new behaviors is that inserting a footer Building Block from the gallery in the Ribbon wipes out anything that was already in the footer and replaces it with the new one. That's why the text on the left disappears when you try to insert a page number with Insert Page Number Bottom of Page Plain Number 2. Adalgo, try this sequence of steps: - Insert Footer Blank (three columns). This gives you a footer with three "Type text here" placeholders (technically, they're Content Controls). - Click the left placeholder and type your text. - Click the center placeholder. Click Insert Page Number Current Position Plain Number. - Click the right placeholder and press the Delete key. The alternative to all this folderol is to build your own footer the old-fashioned way, equivalent to Suzanne's method. Start by clicking Insert Footer and choosing Edit Footer at the bottom of the gallery. (This is the only way to get into the footer if it doesn't already exist.) Type your text, and press the Tab key once (for a centered page number). Type the word PAGE, select it, and press Ctrl+F9 to make it into a field. Press F9, or right-click and select Update Field. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. Suzanne & Jay, I did try the three column footer but was not successful. The final suggestion is a pita but works just fine and solves my problem. Thank you both very much. Al |
