Word 2003 hangs on save to Network
Word 2003 hangs for aboyt 8 second when saving to a network mapped or other
wise.No eroors appera and the same document save instantly to a local drive and instantly the first time you save it to a network. Up on loading, editing and saving the document the hang accurs. This problem accurs on all PC's connected tothe network. The server is running Small business 2003 |

None of that helped, the problem still accurs and excel and word pad work
fine. Server was originally a win 2k server all work stations where upgraded to XP Pro SP2 and user data Mirgrated. Then server was upgraded Hardware and OS to Win 2k3 standard SP1 and most of the hotfixs as some of them stop server from running. Also the same problem accurred when tried on a server with no updates. This is when the Problem start. There are no issues when saving to a Win 2K servers. Check the path if it is unusally long or has some special characters. Also, try disabling Norton Antivirus on the network. If this doesn't helps then check if even Excel files hangs on saving to a network drive. Try saving a document from wordpad on the network drive. Let me know the results of these. The issue can also occur if the Word's view is set to Page layout view specially when you are using protected documents. Set the Word's view to Normal View. Check for spywares and other third party tools installed on your system. Check the event viewer when trying to save the document. See if any application is crashing, if yes, then uninstall/fix that and then try saving
the document. Also, check if you have WebDav on XP system. If webdav requests succeeds Word hangs, if it fails word doesn't hangs. If none of this helps then you have to take a hang dump and see where actually word is hanging. This will help to find out what exactly is happening. It works on an identical server its just one server that is unable to save to
and we cant restart or make any critical changes to the server in question as it is always in use and all the software on the server is needed for the business "Sheetal D [MSFT]" wrote: Check the event viewer when trying to save the document. Also the server when it was 2000 had no problems with all the same hardware
attached. Some Patches where not install because some patches made the server unable to save install when the servers with this patch on was rebooted we got a windows installer error. After patch was removed server operated normally. The Patch number is 896422. WE have now solved the problem it was one of the hotfixs for server 2003 i
