i have tryed to set the page to A3 but it doesnt have A3 in the drop down
box. can someone tell me how to set it to A3 please

What version of Word? I see A3 in both XP (2002) and 2003. If your version
doesn't have it, set a Custom size of 29.7 X 42 cm (11.69 x 16.54 in).

You will not see this paper size unless your printer is able to print it.

You don't actually need to have the printer, but you do need to have the
printer (driver) installed on your system.
