Default Need to print a single label starting at row 1 column 2

I'm attempting to print a single label starting at row 1 column 2 using the
Word 2002 Mailing Label wizard. I have already printed a label at row 1
column 1, and then reinserted the sheet of labels. The wizard prints the
second label at row 1 column 1 even though I instructed it to print at row 1
column 2. The label type I selected is Avery 8160 which translates to 10
labels down and 3 across. Is there a workaround for this behavior?

I've never seen the wizard fail that way, so I don't know what's
wrong.

But there is a workaround: Leave the address box blank in the wizard
and click the New Document button instead of the Print button. That
gives you a one-page document containing a table (click Table Show
Gridlines if needed) matching the label stock. Type the information in
whatever cell you want, and print.

You might want to save that document as a template (.dot file) and
use it (through File New) instead of the wizard for the next time
you want a single label, or a sheet with different data on each label.

ISTR that there's an issue with some versions of Word that no matter which
label you choose, it always prints only the first label on the sheet.* In
this case, using the New Document method is required.

*For example:
"WD97: Mailing Label Wizard Prints Only in Column 1" at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=163649
"WD2000: Mailing Label Wizard Prints Only in Row 1, Column 1 and Not in the
Specified Location" at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211904

Since the "workaround" in both these articles sounds very much like the
steps one would already have used to print a single label, I'm not sure
exactly how they are helpful.

Yes, the "workaround" in those articles seems to amount to "Don't try
to print any label except row 1, column 1." ;-)

Jay and Suzanne,

Thank you very much. The "New Document" template solution is exactly what I
needed. Both labels printed correctly and I can use your "workaround" in
the future. Previously I used a third-party program to print labels, but it
won't work under WinXP.

Unless there's some magic to going through all the steps over again from
scratch.
