How to delete large space before footnote (Word 2007)?
I see this problem posted, but the solutions don't seem to apply to 2007. I
have a huge space before my footnote. I can see the large paragraph mark, but I can't select it. I'm guessing it's a built-in style that's just too big. But if so, I can't figure out which style it is. Help. Thanks. |

How to delete large space before footnote (Word 2007)?
By default, footnotes use the Footnote Text style, which can be modified.
The problem can also be with the Footnote Separator, which can be accessed only from Normal (Draft in Word 2007) view. -- Suzanne S. How to delete large space before footnote (Word 2007)?
I do not understand how to access the Footnote Text Style from the Draft
view. I have the footnotes showing in thie Draft view, but I don't see how to get rid of the large space. "Suzanne S. How to delete large space before footnote (Word 2007)?
You don't need to be in Draft view to modify the Footnote Text style, only
to modify the Footnote Separator. To modify the Footnote Text style: 1. Display the Styles window by clicking the dialog launcher arrow in the bottom right corner of the Styles group on the Home tab. 2. Click Options... in the bottom right corner of the window to open the Style Pane Options dialog. 3. Select "All Styles" as the styles to show and make sure that "Alphabetical" is the sort order. Click OK to close the dialog. 4. Locate the Footnote Text style in the window (it may already be selected if the insertion point is in the footnote), right-click, and choose Modify... 5. In the Modify Style dialog, click Format, then Paragraph... and note whether there are any spacing settings that might be causing the gap. If not, then you'll need to investigate the separator. To check on the separator, switch to Draft view, click Show Notes on the References tab, and choose Footnote Separator from the dropdown. Make sure you have nonprinting characters displayed so you can easily see whether there are extra empty paragraphs before or after the separator. If so, delete them. If not, right-click and choose Paragraph... and note any spacing settings that might be causing the gap. Note that the Footnote Separator uses the Normal style, so if you have modified that style, the separator may reflect those modifications. In Word 2007, it appears that the separator has been modified to have Single spacing and no Spacing After, though it still displays Normal style. -- Suzanne S.
