Default When I change text formatting, the entire document is changed

I created a document in Word 2003, forwarded it to someone using Word 2000.

They reported that when they changed a selected text's color in a table that
the color of the text in the entire document changed. If they did a single
undo then only the selected text remained the desired color.

Since getting the doument back from them it is now doing the same thing in
Word 2003. It not only involves color but if I designate a burger dot from
the toolbar it is inplemented for the entire document (including headers and
footers). A single under results in the desired effect (color, burger dot,
etc) only being applied to the selected text.

The style in use is set to "Automatically Update". Check out the following
