Default avoid updating user dictionary

After executing spell checker, using a user dictionary, Word displays a message
about trying to update the user dictionary and not being able to find it.
However, the dictionary file does exist on that directory.

Is there a way to avoid updating the dictionary, and prevent this message
from appearing?

G'day jpeled@pw ,

Try editing the custom.dic dictionary in notepad and trimming out
spurious entries.
