Default Document Protection

I have created a template that is protected to changes except for a handful of users. How do I configure it so that when a new document is created from that template the same protections are already turned ON as default in the new document? I don't want to have to use macros if at all possible.

I'm afraid macros are your only option. Unless you open a .doc(x) and performs Save As, instead of using .dot...
