Word obviously doesn't believe you as you must be inserting a field for it
to update. You can toggle the field display (ALT+F9) and change the DATE (or TIME) field to a CREATEDATE field. Dates are best inserted with a CREATEDATE field in the template. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org smiler wrote: I have the update automatically box unticked in the insert date and time field but whenever I open a saved letter it shows todays date. You must have this box unchecked when you insert the date using that dialog.
If you use Alt+Shift+D or the button on the Header and Footer toolbar to insert a date, you will still get a DATE field. As Graham says, you need to change this to a CREATEDATE field.
