Why Bullets and Numbering Affect Unrelated Parts of Document
I keep having a strange problem occur in Word 2007 regard Bullets and
Numbering. The scenario is as follows. I use the Numbering button on the Home tab to create a numbered list. Later on in the document, I use the Bullets button on the Home tab to start a bulleted list. As soon as I do that, the previously numbered list changes to a bulleted list, and I have to go back, reselect that block of code, and re-click the Numbering button. Why does starting a bulleted list in another part of the document affect a previous part of the document with a numbered list. I've turned off most of the AutoFormat, AutoCorrect, and AutoFormat As You Type options, but this problem still keeps occurring. What do I have to do to correct this behavior? |

Disregard the previous query. I found and corrected the problem. The
bullets and numbering were using the List Paragraph style with "Automatically update" checked. Unchecking that option corrected the problem. I wasn't expecting the Numbering or Bullets Home tab buttons to use a predefined style. "Nick Piazza" wrote: I keep having a strange problem occur in Word 2007 regard Bullets and Numbering. Why Bullets and Numbering Affect Unrelated Parts of Document
If you want to stop Word from changing the style when you apply bullet or
number formatting, select the "Use Normal style for bulleted or numbered lists" in Office button | Word Options, Advanced category (look under "Editing options"). More importantly, though, you can create lists in Word by applying the appropriate style. For example, to create a bulleted list you can simply select the text and press Ctrl+Shift+L; this applies the List Bullet paragraph style, which you can modify as desired. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Nick Piazza" wrote in message ...
