Default Worrd 2000 File structure OPENING problems with sorting.

I have an unusual problem. a customer of mine is using MS word 2000 SP-3.
His problem is the sorted order of a file in his directory when trying to
open the folder from the 'File open' icon in word only.

Background:
IF seaching from the desktop in "My Documents", When we open this file( It
is an invoice file with numbers: "Invoice #1 Subject") all the numbers ARE
consecutive from 1 - 220. all is sorted in the perfect and expected format.

The problem is only when trying to open the same file from the OPEN icon
within Word that it is out of order.

I have tried the drop down view options in the open page. I have tried
sorting by Type, List, Details, and Date and none sort the list in the
consecutive order as it is in the original file structure??? This is unique
and unusual. I cannot duplicate it in my own files and have never seen this
issue previously?
