By reading the Help file that came with your CD-burning software.

Save your file as you normally would to your hard drive and then just copy
the file to your CD drive. It's best not to attempt to write directly to the
CD, or to read it directly from the CD for that matter. Copying to the cd
from your hard drive and copying from the cd to hard drive will work best.

From within Windows (not Word) with your document closed, copy it to the CD
using your CD burning software. With the more recent versions of Windows,
that software may be Windows itself.

If you want to be able to use your documents, when working within Word, act
as if your floppy drive (CD Drive) does not exist! (This applies to CDRW/CDR
drives as well.)
Don't use Word to:
Open a document on a floppy
Print a document on a floppy
Edit a document on a floppy
Save a document to a floppy (not even a copy)

Word regularly trashes documents on floppy drives!

Instead, work on the document using your hard drive. Copy it back and forth
using Windows.
