Default Why do my word documents keep duplicating as hidden files?

I have Windows ME and now whenever I open and close a Word Document it
duplicates itself as a hidden file (with a name that is a combination of
numbers and letters). Why is it doing this and how do I stop this happening?
Thanks.

Whenever Word opens a document or you work on a document a variety of hidden
files are created. This is normal, intentional and you cannot and should not
do anything about it. When Word is closed the temporary files created in
respect of that session should be deleted. If Word closes prematurely by
means of a crash or by switching off the PC without closing Windows
correctly the temporaty files can remain to interfere with the correct
running of Word - see http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm
