Opening file as read only
This is a strange one, but when opening up files in word, sometimes a file
will open up as read only , sometimes it will just open up normally. There doesnt seem to be any pattern as to why it does this, if a file though opens up as read only, you can close it, open it straight back up and it will be a normal file again. I have checked around the net for differing reasons as to why it does this, I have checked for macro viruses, also made sure that save and open settings are not being set to read only and also checked the folder and parent folders to make sure they are not read only. Everything seems to be as it should be but it still does this. I am running Word 2002 with service pack 3 installed. We are currently running on a windows server 2000 network. Should you need anything else just let me know. My last guess is a networking problem but would not know where to start in regards to this, but i dont want to mess around there unless i have to. Thanks for any advice anyone can give me. |

Opening file as read only
Let me take a wild stab at it:
When you open it and it randomly looks like a read-only file, you have opened it from, say, Outlook by double-clicking an attachment. Or, you have it already open in another Word window. Or somebody else does that is logged on to your machine. And when it's not read-only, you have opened it from a folder. Opening file as read only
Or it is a file that has been copied from a CD and the RO flag not cleared.
