How do I stop Word documents from opening in print preview?
When I open previously saved Word documents they always appear in print
preview mode, how do I stop this? Also it's only certain documents (I assume it's the way I created them that is causing this?) but I need them to open in normal view, not print preview. Thank you for the help. Chris |

Are you sure you don't mean Print Layout view? Documents ordinarily open in
the view in which they were saved, and I don't think it's possible to save a document in Print Preview. -- Suzanne S. How do I stop Word documents from opening in print preview?
Hi Suzanne, thanks for responding. I just double checked and it's print
preview. I want it to open in Print Layout View but even when I open the document, close print preview and then save it reopens in print preview. The documents are reports that I have created in Word via another program. Since you are not aware that a document can be saved in print preview I'm assuming that it can't be and it's the other program causing this. I've checked other documents and it seems only those created with the help of the other program are doing this. I'll try thier tech support if I don't get anymore replies here. Thanks again -Chris "Suzanne S. Barnhill" wrote: Are you sure you don't mean Print Layout view? It's possible an add-in is causing this, but it would be very unlikely. You
are definitely seeing the Print Preview toolbar, including the Close button? -- Suzanne S. How do I stop Word documents from opening in print preview?
Yes, I'm sure it's the print preview toolbar. When it first happened I just
thought it was opening the document in at a smaller percent than I usually have it displayed at but when I saw the close button I realized what was going on. It normally wouldn't be a big deal to simply close it but the documents are physician reports and if the doctor doesn't know to close out of print preview (some don't which led me here) they can't use the report. I actually tried to create another document by using Word alone and I can't get it open in print preview even if I try so it must be the other program causing this. p.s. I went to the Word MVP site; it's great. Thank you for taking the time to help people like me out. -Chris "Suzanne S. With the document open, go to Tools | Macro | Macros and see if an AutoOpen
macro is listed. If so, change the "Macros in" setting until you pin down the document/template the macro is in. That will give you some idea of the direction you need to move. -- Suzanne S. How do I stop Word documents from opening in print preview?
Are these specific documents attached to a certain template?
If this is the case, that template may contain an AutoOpen macro including a code line like the following: ActiveDocument.PrintPreview This would cause the documents attached to the template to open in Print Preview. Alternatively, such AutoOpen macro may be found directly in each of the documents in question. -- Regards Lene Fredborg DocTools €“ Denmark www.thedoctools.com Document automation €“ add-ins, macros and templates for Microsoft Word "Suzanne S.
