Default How do I get the dinging sound to stop when I am in Office

I keep getting a dinging sound (for no reason). I even deleted Office Sounds
and I keep getting it. It is driving me nuts. How can I get rid of it?

What you didn't say is if you hear the same dinging sounds in
other applications, or when your PC is inactive? Do you only
hear the sounds in Word, or do you hear them in Excel, too?
Is the sound coming out of your PC or is it coming through
your speakers?

Without more information, it's hard to make an educated guess.
The dinging sound may even be an internal alarm to warn you
that your CPU unit is overheating. Let's hope not.

Sorry, the dinging sound is in other office applications like Excel. It
seems to happen after I have been typing and pause for a second. It is on my
new DELL Inspiron 9300 portable. Please tell me what other info you need.
Many Thanks!!!

Actually my speakers are turned on but I have the controls set for mute. I
don't want all that noise - especially on some websites. If there's
something I want to hear, it's just two clicks away. :-)

When I mute my speaker, I get a big green MUTE on the screen. I can drag the
control down to nothing, which effectively turns the sound off, but that's
not the same thing, and I find it very difficult to adjust the sound level
using that control anyway.

Default How do I get the dinging sound to stop when I am in Office

Hi Mike,

It's possible that there is a dialog box of some type open
behind the document you're working on. Sometimes you'll
see an item on the task bar or you may be able to see it in
Alt+Tab, but not always. In those cases the 'ding' can come
from the dialog box wanting you to make a 'valid' selection
and typing isn't what it's seeking.

Mike,

See if this applies. Found it while researching online help for
"dinging sounds in office"
Do one or both of the following:

Turn on or off sound

1.. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the General tab.
2.. Select or clear the Provide feedback with sound check box.
Note Changing this setting will affect all of your Microsoft Office programs.

When I mute my speaker, I get a big green MUTE on the screen. I can
drag the
control down to nothing, which effectively turns the sound off, but
that's
not the same thing, and I find it very difficult to adjust the sound
level
using that control anyway.

It is not rude when you have no idea that your message is in caps because
