Default Hiding file-extensions in field "file name"

I would like to use a field where I get the file name but not the
extension. I realize that this depends on what the settings are on my
computer. I either show file extensions or I don't. But in this case I
am making a template and I never want the file extensions to be shown
in this particular field. No matter what the settings are on the
user's computer. Is this possible?

The only way to do it would be to use VBA code to unlink the filename field
and then delete the extension.

Hope this helps.
