Default gutter placement for landscape pages

How do I change setting to place gutter on right for landscape pages? My
program only offers the choices of left or top, so landscape pages show page
numbers on the inside margin instead of outer margin.

Havent tried this in a long time, but: what number has this page?
Chances are that Word forces the first landscape page onto a new sheet
(= usually an odd page), and hence it would be correct to place the
gutter on the left side?

Greetings

Default gutter placement for landscape pages

Hi Robert! Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, this is a double-sided
document and my problem is with the even-numbered landscape pages that, when
bound, should have the gutter on the right with the page numbers on the
outside margin. Does anyone out there know how to do this? The document is
printing with page numbers on the inside binding. Sure would appreciate a
timely solution so that we can meet our deadline. Also, is there a way to
change gutter placement for a specific page, and not for the entire document?
Because it can workaround by changing gutter to top, but then it messes up
the rest of the document that has normal portrait orientation!

Yes, I wouldn't think of a gutter w/o duplexing. :-)

Word is reported to have trouble putting a first page of a new landscape
section on the back of a sheet with a portrait page. You might have to
set this page to start at an odd page.

This indicates that you are trying to change these settings for the
whole document instead of for the given section only. You might want to
read up on section properties he

Default gutter placement for landscape pages

If I may jump in here...

If this is a primarily portrait document with some landscape pages (whether
or not they fall on the back of portrait pages), don't even try to use a
gutter, and for heaven's sake don't try to use Insert | Page Numbers to
insert page numbers. Use the Header and Footer area to set up all headers
and footers (including page numbers), and also note the following:

1. Check the box for "Different odd and even" on the Layout tab of Page
Setup. This will give you a separate Even Page Header/Footer and Odd Page
Header/Footer. Using these, you can put your page numbers on the outside
without using the "Outside" setting in Insert | Page Numbers.

2. This will also permit you to have different top and bottom margins on
landscape pages (an effective gutter). Even though you may not be putting
any text at all in the header or footer on landscape pages (if you're using
portrait page numbers as described at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting...apeSection.htm), you can add
Space After to the header paragraph in the Odd Page Header and Space Before
to the footer paragraph in the Even Page Footer. This will increase the
effective top margin of odd pages and bottom margin of even pages to create
a gutter.

Default gutter placement for landscape pages

Thank you both Suzanne and Robert. That link to the site explaining how to
place portrait page numbers on a landscape page was extremely helpful and we
managed to use that as our workaround. Thank you very much!
