Default why is my text jumping around when I type?

I have never had this happen before with other software, but when I type in
Vista, the letters do not stay in place but move randomly to other locations
in my documents, usually jumping backwards in the document and inserting
itself in a word was I that I already typed. Why is this happening? How do I
stop it? I checked my language setting and it is English Canadian, which I
want.

Are the characters moving or is the insertion point moving as you type and
causing the characters to get inserted somewhere other than where you'd
expect? If the latter describes the behavior more accurately: Do you happen
to be using a laptop with a touchpad? The slightest brushing of a sleeve
edge or dangly bracelet is quite frequently the culprit. In that case see if
the touchpad has a sensitvity adjustment.

Cyber Taz: I don't know where to rate this message, however, it is very
useful indeed and I want to thank you for you for your reply. Now that | am
aware of the touchpad and its sensitivity, and I am more careful while typing
not to touch it, the text is staying in place. I think that you solved my
problem. Well done!
