Default add row to a protected form

Is there a way to add rows to a protected form without losing the information
that has already been entered?

If I unprotect it, add the needed row and then reprotect it all the input
data get deleted! Why oh why would MS have decide that protecting a doc
means reintialising it? I am perplexed (Doesn't take much some days)?

Thank you for your help,

Daniel
