dimensions, or are you stuck with the preset ones?

Which version of Word are you using? if it's Word 2007, which equation editor,
the old one or the new one?

If it's Word 2003 or earlier, or if you're using the old editor in Word 2007,
first insert a matrix of any size from the toolbar; then use the Format Matrix
menu item and choose whatever dimensions you want.

Actually that's one step more than necessary. In the Matrices palette,
the icon in row 4 column 3 is a "Variable-sized matrix". From the
dialog that pops up when you select this matrix, you can choose any
size you want, from 1x1 to 30x30.

Hi Snipes400,

It doesn't appear that the 'Structures' group galleries, including Matrix on the Equation Tools Design ribbon are customizable from
the user interface.

However, you do have several options for defining and saving your own equations or structure either from scratch or by modifying an
inserted structure. Here are a couple:

You can save any equation you create to the 'Equations' gallery (which appears in the ribbon in both the Insert=Equation area and
in the ribbon for
Equation Tools=Tools=Equation
when you're editing an equation. When in the document, select the equation object click on the 'Equation' choice in the ribbon and
use the 'Save Selection to Equation Gallery'. You can organize your entries by choosing the naming of the saved selections
carefully.
Categories ('Built-in' is a category) appear in alphabetical order within a gallery and individual equation/selections appear
alphabetically within each category.

There are 36 galleries available to be placed on the Quick Access Toolbar in Word 2007. Twenty-one are named 'custom...' for
specific groupings of reusable boilerplate entires. One of these galleries is
'Custom Equations'.

To add 'Custom Equations' gallery to the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) right click on the Quick Access Toolbar and choosing customize,
then select the
'All Commands' category, then scroll down to the listing of 'Custom...' galleries and choose 'Custom Equations' to add that gallery
to the Quick Access Toolbar.

When there are no entries in the 'Custom Equations' gallery the button on the QAT for 'Custom Equations' won't do anything. You
can use
Insert=Quick Parts=Building Blocks Organizer
and change the 'gallery' name for your saved equation selection from 'Equation' to 'Customm Equation', at which point it will be
available in the QAT from any point in your document.

(Note: you may want to place the Building Blocks Organizer on the QAT while creating an equation library so you can access quickly.)

You can add a keyboard shortcut to any of the gallery entries (right click on the QAT, choose Customize, then Customize Keyboard and
find your entry in the 'AutoText' category (AutoText in this case is the overall engine and structure for managing Document Building
Blocks)

Another method for keyboard shorthand for reusing content is available through the 'Math Autocorrect' feature. You can set the
equation to 'Linear' select all or part of an equation and then in the
Equation Tools=Design=Tools
click on the Tools launcher (small quare at bottom right of the 'Tools group' title bar) click on 'Math AutoCorrect' and type in a
shorthand you'll remember similar to others listed there or use the elements already there to type in your own choices.

Thanks, Bob, I overlooked that. Maybe you can tell I don't often work with
