Default Microsoft Works To Microsoft Word

Is there any way if a file is made in Microsoft Works, that it can be opened
with Microsoft Word 2000?

When i try it, it says it doesnt have a file that is needed to change it and
to load the CD, but i no longer have the CD. Is there any other way i can do
this?

Do you know which version of Works? There is a selection of Works filters
linked from the downloads page of my web site.
