Default Word 2000 with Office 2003

I had Word 2000 installed on my computer for ages. I needed Office 2003 for
the PowerPoint and to be able to open and edit programs like Access. However,
when I installed Office 2003 (in a Windows XP sp2 environment) I had many
problems with my updates and the Word 2000 programs.

Can they be run together? I had to uninstall the Office 2003.

You can install multiple versions of Office on the same computer,
but you can only install one version of Outlook. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=828956 "Information about
running multiple versions of Office with Office 2003".

Works and Word are entirely different entities. They will also co-exist.

But there is no Works 2000, only Works Suite 2000 (Works alone has version
numbers, such as 8.0), and Works Suite includes Word.

I'm sorry. I thought you would understand that when I said Works 2000 I meant
Works Suite 2000. I just shortened it to Works 2000 but Works Suite 2000 is
what I have.

Default Word 2000 with Office 2003

When you installed Office 2003 unless you took proper precautions it would
have upgraded the Word part of the 2000 suite to 2003 (though apart from the
dubious interface between Works and Word there should be no need to do so).
If you want to reverse that you will have to uninstall Office 2003 and
re-install Works suite (or at least the Word part of it). You should then be
able to select which parts of Office 2003 you want to re-install. If you
want both, then do not install it in the default folder.

I'm not sure this is true. Perhaps it is if the versions of Word are
different, but I know there have been cases when a user is trying to
reinstall Word from the Office CD and Word is looking for the Works Suite CD
because the Word portion of Office was *not* replaced during the Office
install.
