Default Formatting specific parts of field results

Hi all,
Does anyone know if there's a way to go through field results, using other
fields or switches, maybe even a macro, to find text that is formatted a
certain way and then change it to another format? The reason for this is, I
know I can do that manually by going through fields, but the formatting I
change won't stay when I update the field. I have the MERGEFORMAT switch in
the field code, and other than that I'm not sure what to do. Can anyone help
me out?
Thanks!

Without a clearer description of what you are trying to do, you probably
need a *charformat switch rather than a *mergeformat switch, then update the
field - see http://www.gmayor.com/formatting_word_fields.htm

You're making life very hard for yourself working constructing your document
from IncludeText fields. Unless your document is running to 1000s of pages
(literally!) there is nothing to gain and -- as your posts are making
clear -- an inordinate amount of extra effort.

If you put the whole lot into one document and clean up your styles, most of
these problems will disappear.
