Hi , I am trying to create one main TOC for mulitple documents, it's for a
thesis. Everything works out fine except there are no hyperlinks in the TOC.
When I checked the field code it was :

{TOC\*MERGEFORMAT}
{RD Chapter1.doc}
{RD Chapter2.doc} ...etc

so, I added the "\h" tag to {TOC\*MERGEFORMAT\h} , but it still didn't work.
What have I done wrong?

Possibly nothing. I could be wrong, but I don't believe a TOC created with
RD fields is/can be hyperlinked to the external docs.

Suzanne,

Any ideas on other alternatives to getting hyperlinks for multiple-document
TOCs? The programs Master Document has a reputation for really screwing
things up so badly I opted not to use that.

The only alternative would be to unlink the TOC (otherwise anything you do
to it will be undone the next time it's updated), bookmark the headings in
each document, and manually create hyperlinks to those specific headings
(and I'm actually not sure that's possible in Word). In any case, the
requirement to unlink the TOC would make this impracticable.
