Require different default save folders for different templates - .
Different people in my company access the same templates, but save the
documents they generate from them to various and arbitrary folders...mostly, their own My Documents folders, creating a minor filing nightmare. To overcome this disarray I want the documents (template by-products) to be more or less self-filing - each one showing the correct folder, by default, when they click save. Moreover, the folder I specify as the default folder will be different, depending on the template. How can I achieve this? Wouldn't it be great if, when you first create a document, then do a Save As Document Template, a window opened asking "Which folder do you want documents created from this template to go?" |

You can probably force a specific folder location via VBA code, but there
are other options. each user can open Word, click "Tools", "Options", "File Locations" TAB, and set the "Documents" folder location to a master folder on a network drive that everyone has access to. This main folder will then show subfolders for the user to choose from. Not perfect, but it works. Secondly, I need to make sure you are talking the right terminology. Your phrase, Wouldn't it be great if, when you first create a document, then do a Save As Document Template..." has me wondering. Are you talking about creating boiler-plate templates for all to use? If so, there are means by which they can be put on a network folder location for easy access. If you are talking about documents, be careful on your wording. You don't do a "File", "Save as Document Template" when you have created a document based on a template!
