Default Why are my settings overridden when I open other people's .doc fil

When I open someone else's Word doc, my settings for auto formatting, hidden
text, track changes, etc., are overridden by how the person who saved the
file had their settings.

Is there a way to prevent this?

I don't see any way this can be happening unless the document you receive
has an AutoOpen macro; your Security settings should at least give you a
warning when you open a document containing macros.
