Default Deleted Page show in document page total

Word 2003 138 page document, the 1st 4 pages are section 1 (cover
pages/letters etc) and are not numbered. When I delete page 2 it disappears
but the total page numbers do not change to 137, but everything appears to be
correct. I don't see anything wrong, but how can i be 137 pages and still
say 138? When I do a Window compare to the previous document everything is
there but the synchronized scrolling of page jumps and will not scroll
properly between 1 - 3.

When you created the second section page numbers, you probably said to start
numbering at 5. Try changing that to 4.

Can't see the forest for the trees, I had to reset the page number on pages
2-3 of section 1 - thanks so much!

It is the page numbering scheme that is corrupt, there is no pg 4/139 they
read:
"Page 1 Sec1 1/139"
"Page 2 Sec1 2/139"
"Page 3 Sec1 3/139"
"Page 1 Sec2 5/139"
"Page 2 Sec2 6/139"
"Page 3 Sec2 7/139"

Sounds like you have an Odd Page section start for Section 2. If you're
duplexing (or Word thinks you are because you've used "Mirror margins" or
"Different odd and even" headers), there's no way around this, as Word
"knows" that page 1 must be a recto page. If not, try changing the section
start type on the Layout tab of Page Setup.

That Worked. I removed the "Different odd and even" headers from section 1
and on the File menu, clicked Page Setup, and then look in the Pages,
Multiple pages list set it to "normal" for the entire document.

Thank you! Now I can move on to the next problem with this document.

Note that "Different odd and even" cannot be changed for a single section.
If you need "Different odd and even" in later sections, you're stuck with
it, as, unlike "Different first page," it is an all-or-nothing setting.

Good point, It took "Different odd and even" off the entire document, luckily
that is OK here. Most of my other documents have to be "Different odd and
even" but, there is an index on the front where we just add an empty even
page at the end, so that should not be problem.

Thanks again for all your help, you went beyond what I expected!
