Default Comment balloons not appearing in Print layout

I'm using Word 2003. I have 'Final Showing Markup' set in the reviewing
toolbar and and show Balloons 'Always'. On most documents this works fine,
but in one specific document I can only see the balloons in Web Layout view.
The balloons don't appear in Print Preview either. If I have the document
open and create a new document the new document works fine. Anyone have any
idea what setting(s) I need to change?

TIA
TM

The problem could be that the style named "Comment Text" (automatically
applied to comments) for some reason has been defined as hidden (Font Font
tab Hidden). If that is the case, modify the style.

Thanks for your response but this isn't the problem. Neither 'Comment Text'
or 'Balloon Text' are defined as hidden and actually I have 'show hidden
text' turned on. If for example I apply the style 'Comment Text' to text in
he body of the document it appears fine.
