Table of Contents - Removing Header Numbers
Hi There,
Does anyone know how to keep the Heading numbering from appearing in the table for contents. For example...(please see below) I would like for the "1" to be removed from the third line and just have it state 2.1.1 which is part of a sentence in the document. The "1" is associated with Heading 1. USER ACCEPTANCE TEST SCENARIO OVERVIEW..................4 ALERTS............................................ ................................5 1 2.1.1 SEARCH AND VIEW ALERT HISTORY...........6 COMP TITLE, ITEMS, & ARTWORK.......................................17 |

Table of Contents - Removing Header Numbers
In the document, how is the "1 2.1.1 SEARCH AND VIEW ALERT HISTORY" entry
displayed? If you want to get rid of the initial "1" altogether, modify the numbering of the document. If you want something else, try the tips in the article at http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/TOCTips.htm (suggested by Brian). Depending on what you are trying to do, separate styles or TC fields would be used in this situation. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Jeff" wrote in message ... Table of Contents - Removing Header Numbers
Thanks Stefan and Brian. Unfortunately the article that you referred me to
did not answer my question. My TOC looks like the following: User Acceptance Test Scenario Overview..............4 Alerts............................................ ....................5 1 2.1.1 Search and View Alert History...............6 Comp Title, Items, & Artwork..............................17 Future Title - Title............................................. .35 I would like to remove the "1" in front of the 2.1.1 Search and View Alert History. This is a "Heading 1" Any other ideas? Thanks Jeff "Stefan Blom" wrote: In the document, how is the "1 2.1.1 SEARCH AND VIEW ALERT HISTORY" entry displayed? Table of Contents - Removing Header Numbers
It looks suspiciously as if that TOC style has had numbering applied.

Hi Suzanne - the 2.1.1 is a requirement number that is in the word document.
The next requirement number could be 2.3.2 but I don't want the default number in front of the requirement number. "Suzanne S. In the example you cited, there was a 1 in front of the 2.1.1. It was that 1
that I thought might have come from numbering of the TOC style. Short of using TC fields, I don't know of any way to use auto numbering for headings and omit it from the TOC. -- Suzanne S. Thanks Stefan and Suzanne for your help. With all of this information I can
certainly get it to work the way it was intended or find a suitable alternative. Jeff "Jeff" wrote: Hi Suzanne - the 2.1.1 is a requirement number that is in the word document.
