Document Building Blocks
Hi,
If we try and add new text to the Building Blocks.dotx file, we're getting an error message saying the the building blocks.dotx file is read only. We're adding the text in the following way: 1, Highlight the text to be added. 2, From the Quick Parts menu select Save Selection to Quick Part Gallery 3, We name the building block and set the Save in option to Building Blocks.dotx and click the OK button. The dialogue box disappears and the changes appear to have been saved, but when exiting word we get the message: You have modified styles, building blocks, or other content that is stored in "Building Blocks.dotx". Do you want to save changes to "Building Blocks.dotx"? With buttons "Yes", "No" and "Cancel" If we select "Yes" we get the following error message: The file is read only. (Building Blocks.dotx) We are using redirected folders on our network for My Documents and Application Data. The users have full control of their redirected folders. If we repeat the same steps as above without using redirected folders we are able to save changes successfully to Building Blocks.dotx. Any help here would be very much appreciated! |

I would talk to the Network Administrators. Either the files become Read-Only once you use the redirection, or, the file is considered by Word to be in use so it cannot save (Network access timing problems?). It seems that this is not a Word problem, but a network one. Try posting on a group that has to do with your redirection scheme/software/application. |

Hi,
My users have exactly the same problem... I tested with my testuser and Word dont like when %appdata% is in a network folder. By the way, the file is only accesed by me so its no sharing violation what so ever... So it is a BUG in word?? /GunnarD "Jean-Guy Marcil" wrote: "Adam Beale" wrote: Hi, If we try and add new text to the Building Blocks.dotx file, we're getting an error message saying the the building blocks.dotx file is read only. I have since opened a support incident with Microsoft regarding this.
On Monday I was supplied with a hotfix that I applied yesterday evening. Early testing looks like the hotfix has fixed the problem. This is an Office hotfix which contains the KB number 948956. |

Hi Richie,
I'm not sure what you're looking for as far as a report, but the particular hotfix is available through the link at the top of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948956?FR=1 Be sure to read the article though to be sure it's the same issue. ============ "richie19rich77" wrote in message ...
