Hi
I am currently working in a large organisation that users a login script to copy the corporate branded templates to each user at login. The rationale for this is that these templates are stored on the network, but rather than use a workgroup template file location they are copied to each local drive - for laptop users and so that the templates can be edited on the network without everyone having to close MS Word. I have set up various templates for reports etc, but would also like to create various branded headers, footers, autotext and cover pages. Should I save these in Building Block.dotx? If so is this the correct path: C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks\1033\14 to copy this template to in the login script? Thanks Heather |

Building Blocks that should be available to all documents should be in a
template in the same folder where Building Blocks.dotx resides; that is correct (it doesn't actually have to be *in* the Building Blocks.dotx template though). Alternatively, you could place the template(s) in the Startup folder for Word. Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Fev" wrote in message ... I'd suggest using the folder C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks. Word will load building blocks from any template stored in that folder.
The 1033 folder is specifically for US English, and the 14 subfolder is specifically for Office 14 (a.k.a. Office 2010). If your users apply other languages or use Office 2007 (or whatever version 15 becomes), templates in either of those folders wouldn't be loaded. That may be what you want, but you should be aware of the implications. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. |

Thank you both for your answers, I will be adding them to a separate template and place this template in the Building Blocks folder as it will be easier to add further branding options to this template and not overwrite user custom building blocks that may be stored in their Build Blocks.dotx. I really appreciate the help. Heather |

I overlooked the fact that there are language-specific subfolders in the
Document Building Blocks folder. :-( Thanks for the reminder! Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Jay Freedman" wrote in message ...
