Default how can I wirte an equation number next to an equation

In scientific publications or maths books, there is usually an equation
number on the right side of the equation (tab right and number). I am not
able to do this in the new word can anyone help?

Why not -- what happens?

The usual approach is to use a borderless 1x2-table, with the number on
the right. That way, you can even use Word's caption mechanism when the
cursor is in the right cell, if you want).
