When I go and press enter to go to the next line, it appears that the line
spacing is 1.5 rather than single spaced. Anyone know how i can fix that?

Also, the bullets appear very large rather than the default small, for
example the square bullets are about the size of the words and not about half
as i think it should be.

Did you look in Format - Paragraph?

If you see this only when you press Enter, then the paragraph line spacing
is not the issue; rather it is a question of Space Before or After. Look in
the Format | Paragraph dialog.
