Default how to change font sizes other than those predetermined by program

Select the text that you want to change the font size of, click
in the Font Size box, type a number between 1 and 1638 (such as
13), and press Enter.

it appears that one can only use the font sizes pre-determined by Word. For
instance I can not get a 13 pt font only 12 & 14.

Is there a way around this?
