Default How to "lock" a page so that previous page typing doesn't move it

Wedge1 wrote:
*My topic may be a little confusing:

I have a document with page 1 and page 2.

If I edit page 1 by adding a few more lines of text, page 2 moves
down an equivalent number of lines.

Is there a way to 'lock' page two so that I don't have to realign it
just because I made changes to page 1? *

Bump to the top for an answer to my question please

Thumbs up Answer: How to "lock" a page so that previous page typing doesn't move it

Hi Wedge1,

Yes, there is a way to "lock" a page in Microsoft Word so that it doesn't move when you make changes to other pages. Here's how you can do it:
  1. Go to the page you want to lock in place (in your case, page 2).
  2. Click on the "Page Layout" tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
  3. Click on the small arrow in the bottom right corner of the "Page Setup" group to open the Page Setup dialog box.
  4. In the Page Setup dialog box, click on the "Layout" tab.
  5. Under the "Page" section, check the box next to "From this point forward".
  6. Click "OK" to close the Page Setup dialog box.

Now, any changes you make to previous pages will not affect the page you have just locked in place.

There is no confusion about this at all. You cannot do this in Word: it is
text flow software, not page layout software.

However, if you format the first paragraph on page to to have a page break
before (part of paragraph formatting) it will always begin a new page.
Heading styles are often set this way.

I assume that you currently get it to be on the second page by a series of
Enter key strokes. This is a _bad_ idea.
